New features for the October 2024 release of Picfair Themes
With the second release of Picfair Themes for Picfair Stores, we’re thrilled to introduce several new features that are designed to make your Picfair Store stand out even more and better showcase your photography.
Some of these features are exclusive to the new Picfair Themes, and some of them you can apply to any Picfair Theme you're using.
Learn all about the new features below, and how to apply them to your Picfair Store.
Features exclusive to the new Picfair Themes
Below you'll see the new features that are exclusive to the new Picfair Themes (meaning you need to select that particular Theme in order to enable the features on your Picfair Store).
We're really excited about these, and we're sure to be adding them to more Picfair Themes in future releases, too!
1 Photographic grainy backgrounds
Two of the new Picfair Themes now feature a subtle grainy background - reminiscent of film stock and photographic “noise.”
This texture adds a distinct photographic feel to your Picfair Store, but it doesn't overshadow the images within; the effect is subtle enough to enhance your Picfair Store’s aesthetic without distracting your visitors.
You’ll find the grainy background in the Fog Theme and New Generation Film Theme.
2 Gradient backgrounds
With the New Generation Film and Folklore Themes, we’ve replaced flat backgrounds with a soft gradient background - one that blends one colour into another.
We believe these gradients add depth to your Picfair Store’s look, making it more dynamic and engaging for the viewer. These gradients and the colours used have been chosen to complement the rest of the Picfair Theme, to subtly enhance your photos, and give your Picfair Store a polished, design-led appearance.
3 New borders
The Scrapbook Theme introduces a new border style inspired by instant cameras and photo prints, where the border is wider at the bottom - a common feature in gallery prints and photographic displays. Fun fact: an uneven border creates a more visually pleasing effect when viewing the image, compared to even borders, which can make the image appear as if it is slipping down!
New features that you can apply to all Picfair Themes
In addition to the exclusive features introduced with the some of the new Picfair Themes, we’ve also added some exciting features that you can apply to any Picfair Theme you choose, see below:
1 New snug image display options
With any Picfair Theme you choose, you can now display your images side by side without any gaps, creating a seamless, tiled layout, or configure much smaller gaps between your images
This feature is perfect for photographers looking for a compact, yet clean, cohesive grid for their image display where there isn't too much space around each photo. Many professional and fine art photographers use a snug or seamless layout on their photography websites, we believe that's a clear indication of a winning way to display your work!
To get a tight layout for your images in your Picfair Store, regardless of your Picfair Theme, make sure you select 'Custom' for image layout, choose between either 'un-cropped', or 'square' for the crop, and then set the ‘spacing between images’ to ‘0’ in the Theme & Layout section of your Picfair Dashboard.
Add a small gap for a balanced display if you prefer a slight image separation. We recommend anything between 1px and 5px for this.
Also, when you’re playing around with spacing for your Picfair Store, take note of the display size of your images, too, and adjust to get the best overall look.
If you want to increase the size of your images to make them bigger (and have less images in a single row) make sure you increase the size of the 'Maximum row height'.
Note:
We generally recommend using a no gaps setting only with Themes that don’t feature effects like drop shadows, rounded corners, or borders. If you're using a Theme that features these, opt to keep a small gap between your images.
A small gap will keep your Picfair Store and photos looking neat and professional with these effects, as having them sitting snug together to tightly might make your store a little busy on the eye.
2 New fonts
With the release of the new Themes, there are also now five brand-new fonts (one for each new Theme) that you can also use with any Picfair Theme you wish!
You’ll see these newly added fonts in the font drop-down menu when selecting ‘Change Store Title design’ from the Theme & Layout section of ‘Your Store’ on your Picfair Dashboard.
The new fonts in the menu are; Dosis, Special Elite, Anton, Pirate One and Sono.
Next steps
With these new features in Picfair Themes release 2.0, you have more tools than ever to personalise your Picfair Store, display your photography in a way that reflects your creative style, and showcase your images in the way you want them to be seen.
Whether adding subtle textures, experimenting with new layouts, or trying out fresh fonts, these new Picfair Themes give you even more ways to build a visually stunning store that will engage your visitors.
We're really pleased with these new updates to Picfair Themes, and we sincerely hope you'll enjoy them!
