How do prints work on Picfair?

Every Picfair photographer with a Picfair Plus account can sell images as wall art alongside download options, and we handle everything; the order, the production, and the delivery. All you need to do is upload, and cash out when you make a sale.

When you upload images to your Picfair Store, they automatically become available to buy as prints, and in a range of sizes. There are three different types of print product available; Giclée Prints, Canvases, and Framed Prints.

Prints can be shipped to (almost) anywhere in the world, and you can have customers purchase your images from anywhere in the world too. So, for example, if you're based in the UK, a customer from New Zealand, or Canada, or Brazil, can visit your store online, purchase a print, and it'll get delivered to their door, ready to hang–without you having to do a thing!

What print products can you get with Picfair?

There are three types of print products available for every image uploaded to Picfair Stores; Giclée Prints, Canvases, and Framed Prints.

Picfair has partnered with a well-established print-on-demand company with worldwide production and delivery capacity, to offer a range of prints and wall art via Picfair Stores.

Quality is hugely important to us, and we reviewed many providers and products before deciding on a partner and range of products that we felt would best showcase the beautiful images of our photographers.

Below you'll see an outline of each product and some images showing what they look like:

1 Giclée Prints

Picfair's giclée prints are printed with a high-quality inkjet printer, onto Matte 240gsm paper, with a choice of either lustre or smooth art finishes for the final print product.

Giclée prints are carefully packaged either in a flat envelope for smaller prints, or rolled up and delivered in a tube for larger prints.

See some visual examples of the giclée product below:

2 Canvases

The most popular print product on Picfair!

Picfair's canvases are printed on high-quality artist's stock canvas, which is then wrapped around a wooden frame for a tight, professional finish. A 'wrap' is where the canvas is stretched around the wooden frame of the canvas and secured to the back it so you have a seamless canvas look for the entire product.

Customers have a choice of a white or black wrap for the canvas (the black or white area of the canvas is what you'll see on the sides of the frame) and all canvasses come ready to hang with a sawtooth hanger.

The images below show an example of a black wrap canvas:

All canvases are printed on high-quality artist's stock, and come with a sawtooth hanger on the back so they are ready to place on the wall
Canvases also look beautiful when propped up against a wall on a shelf or other pieces of furniture–not to mention it's a contemporary way to display artwork

3 Framed Prints

The image itself comes as a gloss print, encased in either a black or white wooden timber frame and high-quality acrylic glazing (covering). The image also comes with a white border or mat/ mount around them.

Note: When purchasing framed prints, the size listed during checkout is the image size rather than the size of the entire product (with the frame and mount adding 2-3inches / 5-7cm on all sides).

Where do you buy prints on Picfair Stores (the checkout process)?

Images can be purchased as a print directly from the image page on any photographer store, where you'll see the 'Buy' option under 'Framed Prints and Canvasses'.

You'll see the buy prints option for images in the bottom right hand corner of any pic page on Picfair Stores

From here, the the customer will be guided through a process of selecting the product, finish and size, and also any crop of the image they would like. We give customers the option to crop into images to fit the print product they want; as we know from experience this can greatly increase the chance of photographers' photos selling.

We give customers the option to crop as we know it can greatly increase the chance of photographers' selling their images

Once the customer has finished selecting the product, finish, sizem and crop, they'll then be directed to where they can add their shipping and card details to pay for the product-and that's it!

The customer will get a confirmation email, and also an email with a tracking code once the print has shipped.

What tips do you have for photographers uploading images for prints?

Our very top tip is always; upload the best quality image possible, and as close to the original size as possible.

Any pixellation or quality issues with photos will be less forgiving and far more visible in a print, compared to when viewing on a screen. Also, you run the risk of having certain print sizes unavailable for your photos if you don't upload large enough image sizes. Read more about unavailable print sizes for your photos.

Make sure you're always uploading the best quality versions possible for your images so they look fantastic in print

So that your giving your photos the best chance of success when selling them as prints, we highly recommend reading our dedicated guide on optimising your images for printing, and below you'll see a few more tips for photographers (based on popular questions) when selling your photos as prints on Picfair.

I still have questions, where can I find more information?
